Belize Vacation Part 2 - A Day in San Pedro

While I was researching where to stay and what to do in Belize, I kept going back and forth on which island to stay on, either Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye. I finally decided on Caye Caulker, but I added "have dinner in San Pedro one night" to our To Do list. To get from one island to the other, you have to take the water taxi. But upon arriving in Belize & checking the schedule, we found out the latest water taxi between the two islands is at 4:30pm. So..."have dinner in San Pedro one night" quickly changed to "spend the day in San Pedro!"

And so that's what we did on Saturday, we spent the day in San Pedro (which is the name of the town on the island of Ambergris Caye.)

After we got off the water taxi, we walked along the beach for a bit. Then we walked up to Front Street, which is the main road, and did a little shopping. I didn't find anything I couldn't live without but Nick found a hat!

We really didn't have a plan of what we were going to do though & it was driving Nick nuts. So I said "Let's go to Secret Beach!" Secret Beach is a beach on the other side (or the lagoon side) of the island that I had read about on a few blogs. They all said it was one of the best beaches on the island.

It was too far to walk, so we rented a golf cart, which is the main mode of transportation in San Pedro.

To get to Secret Beach, we had to drive through town, over the toll bridge to the north side of the island, and then turn off on this unpaved road for another couple of miles. We were out in the middle of nowhere & at several times we were pretty sure we were lost, but we found it in the end!

The blogs that I read had said that Secret Beach is a favorite of locals & often gets pretty busy on the weekends. But it wasn't busy at all when we arrived. There were just a handful of people there & it stayed that way the whole time we were there.

After a few hours of swimming, snorkeling

and relaxing in the sun

we headed back to San Pedro for a late lunch at the Palapa Bar. Which is a fun little restaurant/bar over the water that had yummy food! Finally!!!

At the Palapa Bar, the waitstaff carry makers in their aprons & loan them out so that you can "leave your mark." So of course, I had to leave our mark! If you ever visit the Palapa Bar, look for us on the left handrail of the staircase leading to the top level.

After lunch, we returned our golf cart but we still had about 30 minutes until the water taxi departed. So we spent it swimming and playing in the water.

Well I spent it swimming & playing in the water. Nick said he had had enough sun for the day so he spent it sitting under a tree in the shade watching me swim & play in the water.

We got back to Caye Caulker around 5 & headed back to our hotel to shower & change clothes. (Isn't he so cute ;)

And we spent the evening just walking around the island.

It had been another #unbelizeable day in paradise!
